Deep but shallow

Hecate and Queen Charlotte Sound offer a stark contrast:
Hecate is shallow to the North with a deep oceanic canyon gashing in from the south

(
By contrast Dixon Entrance is predominantly deep).

QC Sound is deep with significant shallows and “banks”

From commercial view point Hecate (5C,D) is more valuable than QC Sound (5A,B)

Presumably each “trawling grounds” to left has a different geography (depth and sediment type thus perhaps different biota)

A better look at the bottom

Map left modified from a Geological Survey book cover illustrates how drastically “maps” tend to obscur the complexity of the depths
