Spring plankton Bloom in Hecate

Compare this with the Alder leaf expansion series in PR

Funny how dandelions and plankton in sync -- see the alder in PR file

Shallow and deeper areas

Intuitively the shallow areas will bloom sooner as heat up and more sunshine especially where soft bottom material

Looks like peak around 20-21st which was full moon and big tides – after then rain and winds

Images from SeaWifs

Go to the browse utility and narrow search  (400 km +50% is what I used)

16APR2002—bloomed earlier in 2002 than 2004 (left images)

Here is Hecate in full ‘bloom’

NOAA w better images

See here for browser—>S AK

Better images from this site – see 20th Below

15th

I have included the clouds to show how interfere with chlorophyll imagery – note the Gyre (C) of colder water to east of Cape St James—the greenish area with red either side)

20th – good bloom in SE

Key areas in Hecate shrouded in clouds but SE AK taking off around islands (N of QCIs)

27th – weakened?

Strong winds and rain for several days previous to this image – bloom less intense in SE AK– but taking off in Hecate

Tectonically Active
