ORCA raiders at Triple

Transients after seals?

They (3? 4?)swam around the shallow intertidal areas like a ‘biker gang’—putting on quite a show

“There going in for the seals!!!” (mpeg 2.5Megs )   or as WMF file 700K

The calf making a fast dive for prey

Saddle & dorsal needed for ID

Looks pale grey

Were they after the seals??

While the seal (“S” above) looked to be in danger as it sat perched on the rock, I don’t think they were really searching for a seal dinner. They are after fish I suspect (Here is short video of the seal in its private refuge as the Orcas have moved to other nearby islands) MOV02250.MPG 600K or as WMF at 250K

Here they seem to ‘look’ around leisurely just after the ‘raid’

Notice the ‘kelp’ caught on dorsal – purposely? “scratching?” 950K as MPG or 300K as WMF

Searching other shallow areas

This is the mother & calf only minutes afterwards. There are no seals in vicinity so I suspect they were chasing/ looking for salmon
