Meanwhile in Periwinkle heartland

‘House keeping?”

No juveniles here yet

“Everyone” still in the pools, but seemingly as individuals rather than sexual partners

On rock walls perpendicular to these pools is the second species L scutulata as if they were there for the party and have not left yet

South Island

 On the wall above the pool is other local spp

Littorina scutulata

In pools, L. Sitkana present in large numbers– but few/no juveniles seen

Pools lower in intertidal;

Both Littorina

& Limpets

Typically these pools have much less growing in them – limpets keep their lawns mowed

Here the main Littorina present is L scutulata and I see no juvenile L sitkana

(L. scutulata is a broadcast spawner (into plankton) unlike L sitkana)
