Protomonostroma

 Seldom collected

 Easy to spot when Reproductive

Here are some examples for the WWW

 University site

Or Japanese site – note the similar discharge of reproduction

Or by Phycology Society

Fragments given off during Reproduction

Above is from a sheet when algae preserved

Note all the fragments coming off on paper towel used to dry thallus

 Saved on Herbarium sheet

In Phycology nothing is ‘official’ until the speciman is catalogued into a herbarium where other researchers can borrow the sheet and check up on your ID if they are so inclined

What-ever the Protomonostroma looks ‘prettier’ here than it did in tidal pool or when soggy blob on paper towel (above)
