Summary

Below – scour opens up new habitat

Semibalanus settles in June and is dominant by August

Barnacles grow extremely fast

Below is early August

Semibalanus is ‘dominant’

Here is a close up  (and see below)

At first I was not sure this was really Semibalanus --- it doesn’t leave a ‘scar’ on rocks when lifted as an adult – but here there is a Balanus glandula like part of ‘shell’ left on rock (above the 6 for example)

Scoured clean last Feb

Here is same area that will in August be covered with Semibalanus --- Winter storms bring in the breccia and push it out again (below is same area from different perspective and couple weeks later) – the ‘pair’ in image below is AA in image left

Breccia moved in with Storms

Balanus Settling mid June—‘baby photos’

In June had to look closely to even notice the semibalanus

Close up of semibalanus as on left image – 20th of June

August mug shots

Good detail here of semibalanus ‘juveniles’ from same area
