Corallines hit

Can’t take the cold

Either too pink or too white so the close ups show the effects better as below

 

 

 

 

Cold winds did it?

Here the same species of coralline algae survived on the shelf where probably flow water from mussel bed but dies on the slope down – suggesting wind chill to me

 

Lower tidal level too

Again the submerged crust like coralline retains its pinkish color while the same species above has 75% mortality

 

Close-ups

On the left both the crustose and upright genera of coralline algae are affected

 

 

 

 

 

While not shown here the lower inter tidal areas where the swell are strongest went unscathed; presumably splashed with ‘warm’ water sufficiently to protect them from freezing during same exposures as above
