The Mussel/
Goose barnacles were taken out a few years ago Last year the area
where double lines are had both kelp and Goose barnacles by summer (see
below) We will follow
this over the next few months to see if that is what happens again this year Looking down
the slope to where the r is --(unclear at resolution to left but
see below) we see lots of winter kill in the
coralline algae – in an area covered with kelp last summer (as below) |

While
shot at a different angle – looks like this area always changing – if not from
just the seastar armies that frequent in summer using the wall as a high-way |
In 2002

Different
angle
(and better weather ) |

Here
I am able to get down on the slope itself and thus see more of the areal extent
on Goose barnacle/ Mussel community |

This is half year after ‘storm damage’
|
|
The Alaria
(brown algae) that took over the cleared area was later in year than the
same(?) species elsewhere on island. |
Looking down from cliff above

In July 2004
Alaria covered upper parts And the
seastars were busy |
Below in Feb 2005 view – even Goose gone

Above is the
‘storm damage’ in 2004 – a diatom
is covering site and the hatched line compare with above |

Close up in late 2004—video of this
