Small “regen”

The Mastocarpus
colony (here to left of numeral 1 etc.) is evident in the August 2001
image—use the lineament as marker in top image

On
this jagged triangular rock (In upper image it is at the green tape measure)
the contrast between ‘old growth’ and the regen is clear – these large
Semibalanus barnacles (above the S
) have no equivalent in the ‘regen’. Nor
does one see the large areas of ‘black crust’ (1
= Matocarpus crust phase) I
interpret the light tips of the Fucus (F
)to mean reproduction is imminent – and a sign of comparative older age |
