Method – I won’t show all the stages again, but used the
tape to co-ordinate the close ups (see left). At next level a reference
picture taken with a 2nd tape perpendicular ot original.
And then the

3.5 inches X
0.5 limpets |
|
The
smaller brown one seems typical that stage—note how close the apex (a on
image left) is to the front/ head of limpet. Also not the generally parallel
sides that slightly more narrow at head region. I
am assuming the larger limpet is still same species – just older |

Monitoring
Semibalanus @ 25.5 X 1.5 |
|
By
identifying individual Barnacles able to see how fast they grow over given
time and to look at mortality – this is one of a group of still small
Semibalanus --- the juvenile Limpet has a pattern which may make it
recognizable over short periods of time Monitoring
Semibalanus @ 22 X 3.5
Includes 3-5
limpets in ‘clearings’ |
|
|
5.0 X ??---
thus higher on rock |
|
These
limpets are changing into the “striped’ form --- I am assuming all three the
same species and the ‘spotted’ pattern (marked with a ‘c’) is an earlier
stage of development |

Still finding some <2mm

This
image from May 23, 2004. It shows one of smallest Limpets on Site 3, which
argues that still may be getting some spat fall within last few weeks |
