Seastars shine or

Pisaster Disaster??

Just reproducing

I had never seen this before

  May 18th about 8 PM

They were not like this on the morning low tide but by late

afternoon it looked like someone had been attacking the sea stars. But looking around could find others too.

The ones producing the most were similar to this one—relatively large ones usually alone on top of a rock. By the next day none were evident anywhere (hidden in crevices etc)

This one was busy eating a mussel and still exuded the stuff

Surprise

The stuff does dissolve in water but not immediately --- here it is below water and no evident discoloration of water etc --- but close look into pool revealed slightly discoloring --
