Savannah Sparrow

Lots of ‘em in Spring migration

Usually a sparrow was this species at TPL—we stopped “looking closelsy”

Here is WMF file that puts several sequences together

Here is small MPG file

1.3M PR_04JUN02_ 024

Often Savannah Sparrows will favor one type of Alae cover to do their foraging in—it is often Acrosiphonia a green algae – perhaps it just reminds them of a grassy meadow

Passerculus  Bonaparte, 1838

Passerculus sandwichensis  (J. F. Gmelin, 1789)

Single species with large geographic range—this source lists 16 sub species Here is US site with biology and Breeding + Christmas Survey maps

Golden Crowned Sparrow

Zonotrichia atricapilla  (J. F. Gmelin, 1789)

See Cornell site for good general description

The Env Canada range map shows breeds just north of PR and generally Pacific Coast spp

See how the Yellow only covers ½ of “crown”
