Gloiopeltis

G. furcata

When I first see it ‘in the field” I wondered if it wasn’t  really Endocladia—but when compared ‘in hand,’ as in image left, even I could see that it is another Genus

Video sequence as I wonder what it is

Early May collection in upper intertidal

Intertidal role?

That is real Endocladia at either end of the “different” of image left.

Other than growing in mid to high intertidal I have no more information but will look carefully this summer to see what, if any, niche G. furcata is in

Taxonomy

Gloiopeltis furcata (Postels & Ruprecht) J. Agardh

Gloiopeltis is in the same Family as Endocladia --

Human Uses

The genus appears to have been used as food, medicine, and chemical source

This source looks reliable info – good images too
