Dowitcher

Long-billed(?) or short?

Both are common coastal BC migrants – I’ll go with Short billed for these— because  don’t see the ‘bars’ on flanks but spotted as here

Can’t tell for sure but I don’t see rosy colored breast covering the lower belly nor “bars” on the flanks (below wings) thus guessing Short billed Dowitcher

Assuming these are Short-billed (Limnodromus griseus)  then meet characters of sub species hendersoni using this source – but others attribute BC subspecies to caurinis

Cornell site has good description etc – says that parents don’t feed the young at all but they fend for themselves

The Env Canada site has range maps and other info

Limnodromus scolopaceus  (Say, 1823) has even less info that I could find – here is a range map from EC which is misleading—looks like limited breeding range – but that is because only shows ‘western hemisphere’ – more extensive in Siberia (see Hayman: Shorebirds map)

Here is WMF video (2.4 Megs) – note the sewing machine feeding – usually done on mud flats

Semipalmated or Western?

Not much info here
