What’s
happening here? The easy part
is seeing lighter colored Halosaccion (H) just beginning to grow – as in yellowing area
above date. Superficially
looks like the M. parksii is becoming diseased or attacked by grazers (the
green areas don’t look healthy). But the circular patches look like all of
one ‘colony’ being affected |

Close
up suggests upper margins might be yellowish (thus males?) |

This area
looks cystocarpic and early stages of reproduction |

Reproduction
causes appearance changes |
|
Here
the reproduction while only a few thalli of group appears to be associated
with both ‘greening’ and ‘bleaching’ – but the latter was not evident to
casual observation |

While
not as prominent at this resolution there are more total “green” patches in
this area than elsewhere on Islands |

Endocladia
at apex of community #2 makes easily recognized – the idea is to monitor the green
patches over time. The isolated patch to left of 2
is easily followed |

No greening

The green
algae (Blidingia?) makes this one distinctive (at this season) |
