Comparing Aprils

While April 2009 was weird

Not as much as 2005 the last El Nino year

Part of the discussion is 2009 a La Nina year?

Or are we into a cold PDO regime?

Or has climate change just making for unpredictable future where historical climate data less useful for predicting immediate future

Mild La Nina?

Last La Nina (maybe, if it lasted into April) was in 2006

The big difference (as in many of this series) was in 10-15 interval (images left) --- thus in 2009 cooler waters (10°C contour) pushed much farther south

Comparing Prince Rupert Airport: April 2006 & 09

As the 1st graph illustrated—the mean temperature for month and daily (left) were similar in 2006 and 2009 (6.17° vs 6.2°)

La Nina conditions often ‘explain’ increased winter rainfall – and both 2009 (275.5 mm) and 2006 (351mm) stand out as the wettest in period

And last El Nino was 2005 – and it was also the driest month in series, by far

Average mean temperature at PR Airport was 8.3C which is 2° higher than others in series --- and total (recorded) precip was only 90.5mm --- but note the 2 missing days

I will work up the spring flowers and Plankton blooms later

Here is links page for 2007 Blooms

I will return to this later

Here is the key document so far on my site where compared monthly SSTs (water temperature) for years waters off BC – (January thru April)

Here is the Series for May through 2007

And June series thru 2007
