Dec 28th

Winter Cometh

For commentary snow pack

Arrow points to Shedin—Source for Map

Shedin Creek representative NW mountains--- Record maximum in early December while SW BC zilch

How does Dec 2008 compare to earlier years?

First – the snow was late in coming this year – thus December 1st cover versus the 28th --- Note the pink arrow is where the ice pack freezing

How about earlier years?

But on this map looks like Rupert & QCI clear of snow in 2006

Rupert and the Charlottes don’t show up well at this scale – so Vancouver Island most variable

Records at NOAA site go back to 1998

2007 warmest in series

-------

This is update last year file ‘Watching Arctic freeze over’ – there I used October 20th and Nov 11th (latter copied here) --- Last year sea ice had not even reached Wrangell Island (pink arrow 2008 and red 2007) Plus Norton Sound (red arrow ’08) frozen already

And from 2006 (November). Then December ‘06

And ‘Traces Seen of winter 2004

October 20th

Again when compare series see that 2008 freezing over faster than any year but 2004—which was colder (ice sheet continuous except for area south of Victoria Island (pink arrow on 2008)
