Southern exposures

Far end of sewage ‘outfall’

Sun still too hot?

Compare South side and North side

Latter has much more coverage algae etc

I noticed that at seepage area on south side more life survived --- hypothesis --- Sun too hot even at lower tidal levels

(Note the occasional Fucus plant attached to Semibalanus barnacle etc)

Compare w shaded North side

Meter stick is at approximates same position as on South image above – but denuded area is much less on either side of stick

Hypothesis: Semibalanus survives better on shaded side

Semibalanus needed to create habitat for Fucus to attach too – and Semibalanus affected by heat

All the little critters from North side

Most hide/ live  on Semibalanus

More later

Much of this life is this years ‘new comers’ – presumably recently settled out from plankton

Semibalanus provides habitat & protection
