Southern exposures

Shady characters

Comparing north & south sides

comparing 2 images – looks like tidal height becomes primary about end of dotted line – along dotted line south side lifeless

The animals shown here are from shaded northern side in area at end of dotted line

Unlike the Prasiola they are not limited to shady side – but probably must hide under ‘over-story’ algae (e.g. Fucus) to avoid heat/sun on S side

Shady Characters

And ‘street sweepers’= ‘herbivores’

Note how this limpet maintains its own clear patch with an encrusting alga-- = an ‘old timer’

I will do ID later

All are Balanus glandula barnacles – note the smooth periwinkle and contrast with lined one below

Different spp of limpet from above – here Lottia digitalis (?)

Hypothesis: 2 kinds of periwinkles here

‘Baby boom’

among periwinkles

several age classes present
