Structure useful as similar substrate through out

Plus north side differs from south side

Preliminary

Work in progress --- one side lots of life in upper ˝ -- south side zilch

I’ll put up better images tomorrow

Prasiola able to grow on North side while presumably too hot on south side

Why isn’t Prasiola continuous across wall?

plus note the green alga on rocks

Prasiola  at tape spot 3

The presence of this alga is what makes this sewer outfall interesting to me - it is only present on north south side of structure --- working hypothesis – it can’t take the heat/ strong sunlight of southern exposure --- assume hypothesis true --- then it becomes interesting to compare the north and south sides of outfall – how different?

At beginning tape

There is a filamentous green on stones etc at g1? Which presumably same as other G1s

Prasiola blades are beginning at G2 and coverage increases as move down the intertidal zone

Tape spot 2

Can’t read tape – but here the Prasiola is ‘happier’ – finding conditions more to its growth requirements

Tape spot 4

And here Prasiola suddenly ends – one would expect something alga to be out competing it – but wall is apparently ‘blank’ –

While numerous causes suggest themselves: competition, grazing ---still seems to be result of water ‘puddle’ on top of structure – images later

Street Cleaners??

While it does not show well the barnacles don’t look ‘normal’

I suspect they all have small periwinkles hiding in the shells
thus the blue circle with ‘black’ in openings

(interesting idea – but did not pan out when went back for closer look)
