Spring Bloom in Hecate

Satellite view

SAHFOS did plankton monitoring using tugs from 2000-2004 off our coasts; May be useful

Thesis:
Bloom Peaked in Early May

The shallow areas in Hecate ‘bloomed’ sooner – see the 2 April images below

Here is a “textbook” explanation of the spring bloom sequence --- but closer study would show not all that real for Hecate – or Gulf of Maine where authors worked for that matter

And see this ‘poster’ for Straits of Georgia--- very different from Hecate but good science in quick glance

Here is a HS level review of marine ecology – from oceanic to intertidal

SeaWifs gone

The usual imagery ended in late April and it took help from NMFS to show me where the usable data is now kept

Here is the best entry point now

Shallow areas in Hecate blooming

Straits Georgia in full bloom

Name that Diatom?

One of the best sites for plankton images on WWW
