Short Drought North Coast --BC

How come?

See OR site (frames) for university level approach—esp drought links

Climat data for PR – 30 days

Short term

 jet stream

Medium

El Nino -models say PR will get rain soon (catch up?)

But

Long Term?? –

climate change is at hand?

Short Answer: Jet stream ‘moved’

Image Left is from 18 March 00Z (archived at SQUALL site in Ca)

Funny

During this period “our rain” was going into SW USA and this winter precipitation was ending a 5 year drought there

Contrast with Rains starting Late March

Storm Track returns to ‘Normal’

Look at the Precipitation record for this date above—While aimed at the central coast the rains were again with us ---

Blame it on mild El Nino???

See El Nino site – but predicts wetter next 3 months

PR over last year

This is the Airport (YPR) which used to have a weather observer

And Elsewhere??

Climat Data from US site

30 Day for PR

90 day

Last year

Here is the page for W Canada

Or Early signs of global warming ??

Good site for overview & education on Climate Change

And here is best for latest News in media etc

Here is TOC page for precip in N America

Check out Dease Lake – over past year only 20% normal – Fort Nelson 80% normal

Sandspit on QCI is similar to PR –if we can trust Cape St James data (automated) it is only half normal

On coastal lower BC only Comox showing slightly below normal

And in AK only Yukatat showing much below normal

Here is global US data on one fig – patchy drought conditions

On the other hand---much of Interior BC less affected

Skeena River discharge at USK;

looks ‘normal’ except heavy rainfall in early March 2005

The EC site allows this kind of comparison online
