Fall Rains

After ‘dry summer’

Global warming?

·         This is anomaly for the last week September--- note the Bering is still very hot --- the Pacific off BC has cooled down to normal – though Hecate might still be slightly warmer --Most significant ‘event’ (after Arctic warming) is a mild La Nina seems to be developing off the coast of South America

·         After a dry stretch in August – fall rains return

·         Sunny weather in August prompted fall plankton bloom

Rains return

As I said previously Rupert was had less precipitation than Terrace in our August (drought)

Sunny weather prompts fall plankton bloom

Compare the ‘rain’ on graph above around Sept 11th with composite satellite images to left  – appears the bloom in Hecate (Sept 16-18) was short lived – note too the salmon farm fish kill caused by harmful algal bloom (HAB) in Klemtu – where Heterosigma akashiwo blamed

Skeena River

After the ‘record breaking’ ‘run off this summer --- the Skeena is looking more typical

SSTs in August reviewed

July SSTs and Skeena River discharge

May SSTs ---and seasonal SST changes in ‘spring’

June SSTs w similar format to above

See my 2006 SST articles where series in seasons not all one month

See also the 2005 PDO article where concept flips from one steady state to another --- suspect as ‘Global Warming explanatory concept’ now being used
