Hecate in Full bloom

Again --

What is happening? – another hypothesis

Presumably the strong sunshine triggered another bloom—or did it?

Below I put forth hypothesis that ‘bloom’ injected with warmer water from South

Last week I was wondering why Puget Sound etc in full bloom and Hecate was ‘waning’

Inoculated from South??

To test hypothesis would need to know if change of species in bloom – I would guess Dinophycean taxa – more adapted to >SST

Hypothesis: warmer water from south injected blooming plankton (arrow above and below left) --

Arrow points to higher SST ‘coming up from south’

Haida Eddy formation and tracking

Note differences – areas 1 & 2 (note color coding changes – but see relative sizes inside eddies, etc)

SST Anomalies

While ‘storminess’ cooled off N and W of QCIs – becoming anomalously warmer to south of QCIs-- arrow

Puget Sound Eddy??

This area of warmer water off Vancouver Island (arrow) presumably came form Puget Sound – as much warmer than any other surrounding waters

Note the Upwelling found off CA (1 & 2 )—where water is ‘much’ cooler

Areas of cooler water off WA and OR could either be upwelling or Columbia River waters – ditto similar off SW side Vancouver Island

Unclear on July 8th

Seen as over on July 1st
Waning on June 25th
Full bloom on  June14th

Building on June9th

Compare w last May 23rd

And before that w May 9th
