Like land, the underwater area is series of hills and valleys with most features dating from end of last glaciation
Just as ships can only enter the harbour through a ‘narrow’ passage and have limited access to other areas (Tuck Inlet), so the underwater profiles are predictably very different for each ‘basin’

The above figure dates from a report given PR City Council in 1991. At that time the city was planning to extend another outfall. This was not done for among other reasons that it was not clear Outfall I (see fig below) was actually working as predicted. It still isn’t. But read my newspaper article from that era
