The
Best Pole?
I consider the Tanu pole on the left as the purest and most classical Haida pole in Prince Rupert. In some ways that is unfair to Jeffery who reproduced the pole on right. (Note the heavy use of paint emphasizing the Byzantine complexity) Jeffery was good, but he learned his craft before the real revival in North Coast carving began. He paved the way for the later more skilled carvers like Frieda Diesing and Tait who did the pole now found at the Tots’ Park on McBride For details of poles see Tanu Kids park Or Tanu Civic Center pages |
