PR City Council

APR 26th meeting

Too much to do?

Council needs more public meetings

I am told this one did not end till midnight (including the closed meeting)

By only having 2 public meetings per month Council forces too much into one evening

Four presentations and several community groups – not ot mention the closed meeting

Heritage Advisory Committee ignored

Quite the occasion to bring out Dr Greene, Rhoda Whitherly et al to speak against rezoning the Bluff beside MOF building – all in vain – as developers carry the day

Is present City Council Racist?

Local Gov’t ‘show stoppers’ at LRMP

The Local Gov’t rep at NC LRMP table (Paddy Greene) continues to fight battles that date back to the 1980s—thus any mention by 1st Nations at LRMP that uses words “consult/accommodate” or “rights/title” brings an immediate “red flag” from ‘Local Gov’t’ (I counted 20 such objections at last series in March). Council apparently agrees with Paddy – stating (incorrectly) that the terms of reference preclude any discussion of ‘ownership’ plus City believes it should have a seat at any Gov’t to Gov’t talks (irregardless of any supreme court decision, constitutions etc). For a good example see the minutes of March 12th mtg page 12 where Paddy appears to think G2G (Gov’t to Gov’t talks) should read G3G?) Councilor Briglio was offended several times by the discussion – or perhaps that anyone should question Councils’ ‘judgment’?

ICBC Presentation

Because only 2 PUBLIC meetings a month – have to cram a lot into these few hours – the ICBC presentation went over the 15 minute time limit but the message was important – see the web site for details Community Crash Reduction Challenge
