A
very long meeting This
is first of a series – more tomorrow (Thursday) |
|
|
From
the latest Hula
Hoop (fad?) to poverty in PR |
|
Ironic juxtaposition --- Lothar Schliese (spelling?) spoke
about his lived poverty during public input of COW meeting and its
degradations – while at other end of the affluence spectrum Apple’s I-phone
and its capability to access PR City web site was central concern of newly
elected Jen Rice |
|
|
The
BC Ferries Commissioners report was the other ‘big event’ this week |
|||||||||||
|
Se the CBC
story here --- Here is the Commissioner’s press
release with summary and links to
full report etc –
If viewing the Video
of Council meeting – here are ‘start times’ different sections meeting
|

|
|
Derek
Baker Presentation |
|
The Power Point presentation is available the video --- In
presentation much was made of th success of renewed Invest
Northwest BC Web site with over 27T hits in 2011-12 -- But for me the ‘surprise’ was what a high priority being
given to finding moorage for Yachts on Rupert waterfront |
|
|
Claims 1100 ‘itinerant vessels’ going by and a significant
gap between capacity and demand—thus Rupert missing ‘economic opportunities’
--- thus an engineering study done by Harold Engineering |
|
PREDC only asking for 90T$ ‘Community Enhancement Grant’ |
Providing
moorage (subsidies) for the 1%? |
|
Moorage
site looked for in ‘Cow Bay’ area – and also looking for 250T$ grant from
West Cost Community
Adjustment Fund ---- with Communities Future being main contact (from web
site) –I am dubious this grant $$ still available or eligible (LG) And note
that 40% of Total must come from proponents (thus 167T$) |
|
His ‘comments’/ question begins about 1 hour and 1 minute
into the meeting |
Lothar
and people with disabilities in PR |
|
Joy Thorkelson brought up Lothars case at ‘Reports’ stage
later in meeting – And Mayor Mussallem offered Lothar personal assistance if
he came into City Hall Tuesday – so I will deal with this later – but note
Lothar did start his comments off by pointing out the Energy Audits that
Terrace providing owners --- and Rupert should be doing similar etc --- Here is the Terrace
page --- and Rupert should hang its head in shame in comparison thus
their Sustainability Planning; Energy Planning and Emissions
Reductions; City of Terrace has set the following GHG reduction
targets: ·
5%
below 2007 levels by 2015 |
|
There were
several reports dealing with making the current Rupert web site more mobile
phone accessible – Plus there was a demand to provide the PR originated
articles in ‘searchable’ format – thus converting all th agenda and minutes
to google readable format – While Council debates a 3T$ grant – it just
blindly accepts a ‘huge’ project of conversion – it would be ‘saner’ to say
from next meeting forward we will--- And give all the current councillors
(those that know what a PDF is) give them searchable copies of all previous
agenda, minutes etc – which are on staff computers anyways |
Jen
Rice and her I-phone |
|
Carlick Pearson(who was on her cell phone form Vancouver)
mentioned she too had just bought a new Apple (I-Pod??) Note just now Apple making huge inroads into the younger
generation – record sales etc |
|
|
TK
has new camera person |
|
Name is Grace Sullivan I was told --- also told Sahar has
taken another job locally It also came out at the meeting that Nelson Kinney was
PR’s newest grandfather --- and congratulations were given by all |
|
|
Contractors
continue heaping snow upon sidewalks |
|
I was told the City ‘used to’ shove the snow to the center
of streets etc – then remove – but now ‘policy’ to just push it up on the
sidewalks --- real people drive cars
|
|
|
But
City did clear off some sidewalks |
|
Most those downtown were cleared (presumably by property
owners adjoining sidewalk) But I did see that walks cleared from Library to Third
Avenue on McBride – well it is a start |
|
|
More
Important
|
|
Another
car same site blocking sidewalk today --- who cares? |
