of these volunteers are amazing --- butalso Big 6
often show ‘conflict’ |
Last year

different groups ---‘profits ‘ from Film Night went to purchase DVDs which
donated to Library ---offering ‘Creative Jam’ Fri-Sat-Sunday
in Feb – forms etc – Grant will also allow to apply
for matching grants from Art Council BC etc –

True
local heroes Gunther and Nancy Golinia-- http://www.prwildlifeshelter.org/
--
see Flickr
photos for idea of ‘wild’ animals – but real plight is domestic cats –
which are often ‘euthanized’
by SPCA etc because no room – but the Golinia’s spent upto 20T$
getting them neutered and shots rather than killing the cats ---Mary Anne Baumbach Ouellet from Kitimat Humane Society made case for Cat Bylaw to stem
the tide of feral cats (more later) --- or listen to her presentation
starting at 44:00 minutes into presentation |
Presentation
begins at 27:00 into Jan. 12th COW meeting |
Museum
of Northern BC presentation
–54:00 |
Very good presentation—included 3 pieces ‘new’ information
– handed out at meeting --- Crisis – ‘serious situation facing in 2012 due to
loss of cruise ships etc (down to only 4 visits) |
Asking for additional 23T$ for Visitor Information
center—expenses not ‘initially told have to cover’ when took over (1:10) ---
plus 30% drop 2010-2011 in ‘cruise ship revenues’ – thus even tighter 2012
--- also open extra hours—+ BC Ferries ‘councillors’
etc (1:10:34) –(which totals to 23T$)—thus the 1X 2012 increase asked
(1:10:45 |
Ashley
Questions -- $$ from SD52? --- answer about 2800 (1:13) –Requesting 40T$ from
Port ‘to replace Cruise’ –What about Ridley – and First Nation Governments?
–Robin answers corporate sponsors want to contribute to things ‘rather than
operating’ ---1:16 – Marsden adds more Civic than 1st Nations
funding ‘responsibility –then ‘back and forth between Marsden & Ashley –
Anna & Judy had to leave – loss of quorum – so officially adjourned – but
proceed unofficially ------ Solutions for increasing ‘operating’ expenses
40%> BC Hydro etc ‘non
discretionary costs’ – etc |
And
Doug Moore chides City for using the screen saver – that comes with MS – get
something more original etc

Halloween
Fest – 6T$ in kind asked for – starts 36:00 |
2012
will be the 25th anniversary of Halloween Fest ---Bev Killberry involved since 2008 ‘my husband decided I
needed something to do’ (37:00) – ‘Safe and fun filled’ evening +BC Transit

Snow
– we are not amused |
But the kids enjoyed it
But
after the snow – turned very cold – for Rupert |
Note how the ‘Pineapple’ is going to the South of us – we
are actually lucky because that came as snow when the moist air met the cold
--- and note too that YPR again does
not seem able to keep up its measurements |
Snow
removal budget |
The first day of snow – City crews did a great job – lower
left – ‘obviously’ a small tractor has come along and cleaned McBride
sidewalk (arrow points to tire mark( ---- but next day City Crews again make
the rounds ‘cleaning up’ --- so almost allt he
streets excess snow shoved onto sidewalks – as below right |
I
like this one – a certain Mayor’s place just waiting to drop snow on unwary
pedestrians |
Optometrist
closed |
Prince Rumour had it that was
going to shut down – empty building argues ‘he’ was right |
Easy
Parking |
Two images here – this delivery truck just pulled in at
angle and made his delivery ---- presumably could not find adequate parking
spot – though by time photo taken – looks adequate space |
Special
meeting on 19th
Should
be short one --- a formality only |
And
note the 166$ per meeting --- those people get paid a salary too --- Rupert
taxpayers foot most the bill? –more later Taken
from next SQCRD meeting agenda package |
