Some of these volunteers are amazing --- butalso Big 6 often show ‘conflict’

 

Last year asked for 10T grant and given 9T –Arts Council in turn donated 14.5T$ to 11 different groups ---‘profits ‘ from Film Night went to purchase DVDs which donated to Library ---offering ‘Creative Jam’ Fri-Sat-Sunday in Feb – forms etc – Grant will also allow to apply for matching grants from Art Council BC etc – Postcards from edge of world (13:00)

True local heroes Gunther and Nancy Golinia-- http://www.prwildlifeshelter.org/

-- see Flickr photos for idea of ‘wild’ animals – but real plight is domestic cats – which are often ‘euthanized’ by SPCA etc because no room – but the Golinia’s spent upto 20T$ getting them neutered and shots rather than killing the cats ---Mary Anne Baumbach Ouellet from Kitimat Humane Society made case for Cat Bylaw to stem the tide of feral cats (more later) --- or listen to her presentation starting at 44:00 minutes into presentation

Museum of Northern BC presentation –54:00

Very good presentation—included 3 pieces ‘new’ information – handed out at meeting --- Crisis – ‘serious situation facing in 2012 due to loss of cruise ships etc (down to only 4 visits)

Asking for additional 23T$ for Visitor Information center—expenses not ‘initially told have to cover’ when took over (1:10) --- plus 30% drop 2010-2011 in ‘cruise ship revenues’ – thus even tighter 2012 --- also open extra hours—+ BC Ferries ‘councillorsetc (1:10:34) –(which totals to 23T$)—thus the 1X 2012 increase asked (1:10:45

Ashley Questions -- $$ from SD52? --- answer about 2800 (1:13) –Requesting 40T$ from Port ‘to replace Cruise’ –What about Ridley – and First Nation Governments? –Robin answers corporate sponsors want to contribute to things ‘rather than operating’ ---1:16 – Marsden adds more Civic than 1st Nations funding ‘responsibility –then ‘back and forth between Marsden & Ashley – Anna & Judy had to leave – loss of quorum – so officially adjourned – but proceed unofficially ------ Solutions for increasing ‘operating’ expenses 40%> BC Hydro etcnon discretionary costs’ – etc

Halloween Fest – 6T$ in kind asked for – starts 36:00

2012 will be the 25th anniversary of Halloween Fest ---Bev Killberry involved since 2008 ‘my husband decided I needed something to do’ (37:00) – ‘Safe and fun filled’ evening +BC Transit free ride if costumed ---‘reduction of vandalism’ 2008 tp 2011 with Saturday night 2009 worst w 40 incidents –double the other years
In 2010 counted about 2,000 as a rainy ay --- long line up etc

But after the snow – turned very cold – for Rupert

Note how the ‘Pineapple’ is going to the South of us – we are actually lucky because that came as snow when the moist air met the cold --- and note too that YPR  again does not seem able to keep up its measurements

Snow removal budget

The first day of snow – City crews did a great job – lower left – ‘obviously’ a small tractor has come along and cleaned McBride sidewalk (arrow points to tire mark( ---- but next day City Crews again make the rounds ‘cleaning up’ --- so almost allt he streets excess snow shoved onto sidewalks – as below right

Two images here – this delivery truck just pulled in at angle and made his delivery ---- presumably could not find adequate parking spot – though by time photo taken – looks adequate space
