October 11th

Council meeting tonight

Election thankfully ‘soon’

RCMP ‘volunteers’ and officers paint the building --- now where is the 600T$ in budget for cell renovations?

Don’t be Cynical

Here is the fresh produce store across from the RCMP building on McBride Street --- Like the place was broken into at night ---- while I did not ask – since thieves got inside – I assume not caught – or even noticed by the cops across the street

Plus it is time to ‘rethink’ the Fire Department --- perhaps a town of our current size should consider a Terrace model volunteer force --- or perhaps a more ‘regional’ fire department – Port Ed and the villages etc

Below a Fire truck outside a local business --- doing site inspections one of real values of full time fire fighters

Another in camera meeting (with dinner served)

I bet Rupert spends more time ‘in-camera’ than any other municipality in BC --- I was told it was originally conceived to allow more discussion with staff – who9 could then go home --- more on this later --- but I suspect ‘staff’ already too strong

Hey guys I thought you were going to close this building?

Note the Tax Exemptions from last meeting --- not even any comment on a Golf Course and its bar ---

But ‘Staff’ considered giving the people of Lax Kw’aalams and their new ferry facility at Cow Bay --- too ‘rich’

We never did get a full discussion – Does Metlakatla pay City Taxes? What about Dodge Cove Ferry, etc

See my 10/10/10 and next day

Remember 10/10/10 – that was when the Storm hit us last year

I suspect the City is no more prepared than last year --- many hazardous trees etc still standing – but here was a do it yourself job that removed a tree that would have surely come down in 2011 (arrow left below)

The only draw back was the fellow logged out the whole site --- he ‘requested’ that I not take a picture that would identify him ‘I know where you live’ he added

Taken from October storm 2010 story

Dangerous tree? Or better view?

Beautiful Mural finished

The whales tail added at end (with water)

See Jeff King story in September 30th Northern Connector

But I note too there was some serious ‘logging’ to accommodate a view --- we’ll see if it causes damage later in storm season (runoff ditches carved too)

Studio 9 closes up

Here the fixtures presumably being hauled to the dump --- Decline of local business (here it was more about retirement than poor business) – still the lack of good jobs locally is ultimately to blame

Kids were Run/ walking

They told me it was the Terry Fox Run

Description: DSC08387

These guys had their own Ski jump

They were ‘practicing’ with skate board like ‘skis’ – the snow was ice from the Arena – presumably part of the ice grooming procedure

If Bedaard runs for Mayor will there be a potential ‘conflict of interest’ with her husband in Port Ed?

Pinnacle Pellet sold locally

I wonder if we will get an update on ‘hazardous material’ at tonight’s Council meeting?
