Dragon Boats and sunshine

Description: DSC05772

Forecasted rain did not happen

An eventful weekend

From Dragon Boat ‘races’ to Transition Town initiatives to sunny weather

And SQCRD meeting Friday—First look

Here I just touch on a few of the topics

Description: DSC05739

The fellows replacing roof on Domenica Villa lucked out with the sunny weather

While it was still early when I was by – looks like they should get this side done today

Surprise!!! Looks like Jerry will comply with City rulings before end of month

When I took these pictures the crew was just putting away the scaffolding etc at end of day --- looks like power washed and concrete facing prepared so can soon paint it --- almost looks like an abstract art work

And the Elderberries (Sambucus) almost at end of their bloom (see end this file) --- here is City owned property

Description: DSC05778

And when are they going to sell this property?

I suggest it might be appropriate for Garden and Green House --- perhaps using the standing building --- there is shed area etc --- and it might fit the Transition Town theme (more on this later--- but a talk was given Saturday on this theme --- along the lines of weaning ourselves from peak oil --- and inventing a viable future) --- below I have pictured one of the ornamental ‘fruit tree’ flowers now in full bloom --- the idea would be to replace them with ‘real' apple trees etc – that could bear real fruit – not just flowers – along lines of ‘permaculture’

And as the Sambucus white flowers ‘peak’ – the Sorbus ones come into bloom

On Sunday only a few flowers have actually opened --- see my earlier (scroll down page) for botany and previous years etc for Mountain Ash --- looks like blooming at least a couple weeks late this year -- earliest I have was May 10th during an 2005 El Nino year

SQCRD -- 1st look

The Graham Island OCP is visually and conceptually attractive document – available online at the SQCRD web site – now it will go for Community comments on Graham

There is a sub text to this too

As I have argued elsewhere – the SQCRD is a vestige of Neo-colonialism – Oona River and Dodge Cove each have their own rep while the vast majority of population  live on reserves --- From the Graham Island OCP we see that about 2/3rds there live on Haida lands

Surprisingly PNCIMA brought a lot of discussion

More on this later

Again – end of the Dandelion bloom period and the commencement of the ‘white flower’ phase of Spring flowers

The arrow points to Sambus in full bloom
