Looks like Staff (and Council?) made a boo boo
Council
+ staff seem to be on auto-pilot |
They do so much of their ‘business’
in-camera – they miss the ‘big stuff |
Note
the 4000$ from excerpted section of Table |
Skip
to the error |
Full table at end of page |
Note
the '2011 Proposed Property Tax Increase' is only 4,000 dollars --- but in the ‘notes’
on same page says need additional 480T$ to balance the budget’ |
Mistake?
Council
‘debated’ how much tax increase needed --- seems none of them looked at the
current paperwork |
I bet the Council had used a previous version of the
budget that did not have the most current (and final) assessment values---
and in the table the proposed tax increase was a computed value --- so when
final assessed value entered – the 480T became 4T$ --- but no one bothered to
read the stuff ---- not staff, not Council |
Hey
remember these are the same guys (Howie and Rodin)
that misplaced 5M$ a few years ago |
Can
one legally increase the taxes when not needed to ‘balance the budget’? |
Funny too --- I mentioned my close reading to several
people who thought it was a minor error that would be quickly set right --- but nothing heard from Rodin et al about
the ‘oversight’ so far |
Look how much $$ going to local organizations --- Gordon
Payne had great idea that only the churches would get the tax write off next
year --- It would be best to pass some sort of motionnow so that next years newly elected Council would have to either accept
or repeal when they come to making their budget |
