We See

From Sunshine to Council

Conrad School 2nd graders sang ‘Song for the ocean’ on perfect Rupert day

To celebrate World Oceans day (early)

http://worldoceansday.org

Left is what the audience and listeners saw out in the harbour

See 1st look at Council meeting

 Song for the Oceans

http://www.songfortheocean.com

Mae Jong-Bowles, a second grade teacher at Conrad Elementary organized the event which has been held annually – Mae said she usually goes with kids down to the Point Henry vessel– but given its decommissioning wanted to have a larger community ‘event’

Joe provided the sound system etc utilizing the power generation capability of his new camper

Old CN building

I was told that renovations are progressing and tentatively a new tenant will be using the space ‘soon’ --- more later

And on the walk down – the ‘Broom’ plant in full bloom – pity it is an ‘invasive species’ ---

See my earlier (2002) of this same location

And these kids were at it all afternoon

Most of us just got outside and enjoyed the sunshine  because we could see the fog slowly forming to the west --- first only a slight haze – then becoming denser etc

On McBride

I was told someone went in to complain to City --- seems no one (at City) had noticed all those limbs which one informant said he saw the fellows building the new fence – throw down – typical – one person will have the City there the next day ordering him to clean up – others go ‘free’ ---- mainly because it takes a complaint to get the city activated – so unless you have squeaky wheel neighbours – etc

Not only did he keep the announcement to the end – he prefixed it with his ‘Mayor’s Report’ which is a daily itinerary of what he has done – everything from Breakfast to visiting dignitaries --- any reasonable person would have changed channels half way through this --- then he makes the announcement

Oh ya – there was a Council meeting Monday

And so typical of this Council that does everything in-camera (starting at 5PM --- public allowed in chambers at 7PM)

Mayor Jack Mussallem waited until the very end of the meeting to announce what had been decided earlier in-camera--- that there would not be a referendum to borrow $$ to build combined fire/RCMP/ ambulance building – but Council would go the more expedient Bylaw/ counter petition route --- see Monica’s Northern View story – more later  on this contempt for not only the law governing conduct of Public meetings --- but essential democracy

Boychuck Power Point presentation

This person is a true believer --- brimming with enthusiasm about the moral benefits of taking Rupert cadets to revisit WW2 battlegrounds

There was a series of post card images from WW 2 battles

The irony is that only wants 35T$ from council – presumably in 2012 Community Grants --- as believes 9 other funders will contribute similar amounts --- the irony is that I bet Council will spend more on their Ketchikan July 4th week junket  -- more later

Northern Health presentation more informative

I will go into this in more detail later in week --- lots of good info and insight into our community

And we see that King Koin Laundry has a bright new look

Here they are doing the final touch ups --- Nice paint – and I like the vibrancy of the color choice

Site will be off line Friday 8am -4pm – for maintenance
