June 5th

We See

From Art to PNCIMA to Council

 Left from Easel Weasel exhibit

And (somewhat) sunny day brings out the ‘spring’ flowers

PNCIMA story

Council intro

And there was food too

Easel Weasel Artist show and sale at Museum

Seemed to bring out a good crowd for a Friday evening

Lights Out?!!

Lights went out temporarily in Zellers – clerks seemed to guess that it was done from back east where they did not have ‘local’ time correct – plus stays open longer Friday nights than 6PM --- Lights were soon restored

And speaking of ‘mishaps’

The fire truck (sirens going) was trying to get past this car – first it pulled into the lane the fire truck was in instead of pulling off to side of road --- fire truck had to stop – the driver seemed to ‘panic’ and backed into parking lot – to let fire truck by

We should get merchants to put up no trespassing signs

These people are often openly drinking alcohol – especially later in the evening --- if a sign were put up, then the RCMP could move them on – even if store closed --- several places like this used as ‘outdoor bars’ by street people

Last few days the Sorbus’(Mountain Ash) at flowering peak --- while Aruncus (Goat’s Beard) not yet ready to bloom yet

And the Sambus (Red Elderberry) has passed it flowering peak and is now turning to berry forming stage of its spring cycle

‘fallen flower’ or corolla shown insert

New Sewer line opposite Civic Center parking lot

I like the contrast in the freshly blasted rocks --- 1 is completely unweathered while 2 has been exposed (or close enough to surface) that the ‘iron’ has weathered red/ brown --- and though Phyllis Bowman used to say everything either rock or muskeg in PR – looks like this soil (3) was never muskeg (all one color of black)

I mentioned PNCIMA coming up at SQCRD meeting

There is a lot of very good oceanographic information on their web site of PNCIMA area --- for example the Northern Fur Seal occurrences from marine mammal backgrounder etc See this page

Above taken from this Feb 2011 summary

Looks like all these different groups having a hard time reaching consensus on what EBM (Ecosystem Based Management) means --- Some people see EBM as a paradigm shift away from single sector or even single species management (transportation or salmon etc) --- but all those different sectors have had years to ‘dig’ in and thus now resist the new approach --- Next meeting on QCIs starting June 14th etc

Here is main web site http://www.pncima.org/ And here

Here is a T Buck Suzuki Power Point presentation giving overview of PNCIMA process – and here is a recent Kitimat Sentinel article reporting on open house there

Oh Ya – there is a council meeting too

Northern Health update could be interesting

Mistake??

Gordon Payne asked for details/ cost of upcoming Ketchikan trip to be given – but ‘they’ seemed to have got the wrong question (b) I asked

Part of the Grant request is for HVAC --- I suspect they mean HVAC as in ‘Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning’—see Wikipedia

And Airport Authority coming to Council

Seems they were present on Feb 14th – must have been in-camera (typical) – we used to get Airport updates/ reports monthly – see my previous page on ‘Authorities’ ---- I am often told I should deal with the Airport manager --- but according to YPR web page – City Council is the Airport Authority
