We See

Sunny weather

June 2nd

Sunshine brings out the painters, roofers and flowers

Not only the signs – but merchandise placed on public sidewalks --- if kept on their own property totally legal and acceptable

Nuisance (and illegal?) street signs

Of course these people are not the only ones using public property for their business promotion --- but they are consistently the most ‘aggressive’-- I will argue another time the signs do not meet minimum criteria for ‘sandwich board’ signs

Property line here is (I suggest) the house front – the ‘parking’ is on public property

Junk cars on public property

I suspect most these people would be happy if City would tow these cars away for them --- there should be a minimum fine – and cover City costs for towing

Earlier image

Sunny Weather – has allowed roofing projects to be finished

Gone

We see the old fish plant now torn down --- speaking of Fish Plants – Port rumoured to have bought MacMillan fish buildings – to be torn down in August --- hopefully not the ‘Reduction Plant’ --- smelly, yes, but critical to the future of fish plants in PR

At right BC Hydro trucks installing power for future pumping station (I am guessing)

Hays Creek Sewage project progressing

I will check later to see if a ‘transformer put in

One long time resident told me that ‘every’ house would once have had a kitchen garden – but ‘back then’ women stayed at home – now that both parents have full times jobs – the old model might not work --- requiring a ‘new model’ -- for local food production -- co-op? etc

Transition Towns

A public discussion and after a few organizational meetings later in summer --- Come September the meetings will start in earnest --- seen at this meeting as Peak Oil --- but more about how to be ‘sustainable’ over long term

This image is from the SQCRD presentation

As below – now going into ‘management plans’ --- a cynic (like me) might see this as a way to have ‘business as usual’ while taking ‘credit’ for green policies – one fellow wanted to continue hand logging on protected areas --- and argued vociferously that was ‘green’ etc (at another meeting )

Another slide from SQCRD presentation

See my previous page for the links to BC site

McDonalds Restaurant

Renovations were  pretty well completed last Friday – now it is a matter of spiffying things up --- I hear that change in corporate philosophy --- soon across Canada will have Wi-Fi etc --- sort of like a Star bucks

And old Home Hardware building gets its paint job

I hear the owner decided it just was not worth the time and $$ to argue the matter with the City --- note there are numerous other buildings in equally decrepit shape downtown

Go Canucks Go

Celebration after the last minute score

Broom plants in full bloom

Many of the other flowers coming into bloom now too

Mint and Buttercup among others

Kids’ Posters are both ‘imaginative’ and colourful --- great job people Kids, Civic Pride, teachers etc
