We See

I been ‘lazy’ – way behind

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSCN8343

‘Indian Rhubarb’ --- Rapid growth --- ideal for our type climate See below

RCMP/ Emergency building ‘debate’

----2009 Annual Report

----1978 opening stories

---- BC Bid info for ‘plan’

Canada Day – with Navy

Cutting Tables & Authorities

Tourism sceptic  with Annual Report data

And miscellaneous

Until May 1978 was in City Hall – jails etc still there?

Was there an interim site?

Does the RCMP need a new building?

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSCN8429

This story is so typical of Rupert --- As Councillor Kathy Bedard said at last meeting – ‘I have been hearing about this file for last 16 years’

See Below

In 2009 Annual Report – still undecided whether to upgrade RCMP or build another --- note the ‘Business case’ and the ‘needs assessment’ that were to be done in 2010

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: 2010_annual_3

Excerpted from 2009 Annual report

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSC07132

Building was new in 1978

We are told by ‘staff’ that the current building has lived beyond its usefulness and ‘needs’ to be replaced

Note both Malls were already in existence when current police station built

The photo below from PRDN does look a little dated though

I have ‘copied’ these from the microfiche  reader at PR Library – I took pictures of reader’s screen

State of the Art in 1978

We need to hear the argument that ‘better’ to build new facility --- Not allow ‘staff’ to make all these decisions

From the City Bid info on BC Bid --- Contract presumably awarded June 30th

Info forwarded to me by City

Note public involvement and Completion date

I suggest no resolution passed by Council authorising this bid  tender

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSCN8382

Fire truck went over and took a look – perhaps even contacted BC Hydro – all seem to agree not a problem

Looked potentially ‘dangerous’ – balloons might reach to other electrical pole and short out

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSCN8381

See links to previous from this story

Patios back on the agenda

For me this is so typical of the City Council – ‘taking care of business’ --- now Zeno-saurus is writing up a new policy to make it cheaper and less onerous for business to use public property --- this Patio was built to smoke from – then someone looked at how far had to be from an entrance – there’s might have passed but not their neighbours

Canada Day – July 1st

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSCN8385

I wonder where we got the spiffy new outdoors tent for performances?

Here is one of the youthful groups performing – too bad it was such a rainy day

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSC07145

Tour of navy ships in Kingston class – on Canada Day

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSCN8384

Navy Ships

HMSC Brandon HMCS Nanaimo and HMCS Whitehorse

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSCN8402

In lieu of guided tour -- see the web site etc

Canadian Navy coastal patrol boats

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSCN8403

– I heard there was up to half hour wait for tour

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSC06950

Is this Legal?

I think there is some obscure provincial law about advertising beer --- but it is more that a sign like this requires a City permit to be erected etc – I am dubious this was done – I will check --- I remember a similar one at Tim Horton’s blowing down a few years back – It is on my web site but can’t find as yet

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSC06803

Like most things in Rupert – it is who you know – these cutting tables at Port’s Atlin Dock are used by ‘selected’ sport charter boats --- to be fair – they did carefully remove the fish parts and presumably used for crab bait ---

No cutting tables available anymore --- used to be lots at Wampler Marine 08July27

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSC06961

My 2008 does not show the cutting tables --- but ‘problem’ could be ‘easily’ solved if City would ‘remember’ it is part of Port Edward Harbour Society – and get some results – see previous on Rupert’s (forgotten) Authorities –and follow link to Howard Gray presentation

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: cruise-stats2

One local downtown businessman I spoke to seemed to believe relying upon cruise ships for our economic future was ‘silly’

The hay day seemed to have been when the C$ was so cheap in terms of US$

Presumably the graph left from Port

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: 2010_annual_comp4b

From Annual Reports

Note the steadily falling revenue from the 2% ‘Hotel Tax’

More later

Superficially – I suspect the reson 2009 stands out is that several senior employees retired that year – with pay outs etc

More later

Interesting comparisons

La Nina to La Nada

Presumably the cold water sitting off BC is what we owe are cold spring to --- see the latest NASA report etc

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSCN8342

Cow Parsnip at Peak

An amazing plant – thrives on our climate --- growing from seed to dominant – every year --- said to be edible (see Nancy Turner link) – but I am allergic

See my previous especially this page (where scroll down for links etc)

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSC06857

Here I am interested in the ‘floral design’ – as here

Larger flowers to periphery --- but note how seems specially adapted for fly pollinators

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSC06860

Seems to be a sugar source at base – and when leaning over the anthers are well placed to put pollen on the insect

Pollinators

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSC06856

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSCN8424

With all the fresh paint around town – bad to see the kids doing ‘their part’ --- I suspect both done by same fellow

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSC06807

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSCN8444

We See – Dundee Wealth opening up here ---- I thought ‘sure’ the ‘SQCRD’ would be coming to this building once the land deal gets ‘settled’

10,000 Salmon project of Skeena Watershed – more later

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: DSCN8395

Again I will come back to this – but available on City site as video – just ‘move in’ the selection slider  about 28 minutes to see the presentation by new CEO
