Fist look at Council meeting

It was a long one

For more background see my earlier Alarm Bells Ringing

I consider the moist significant part of meeting was the dealing with water and sewer increases and attempt to change commercial to all ‘water in- water out i.e., using metered water to determine sewerage charge – Northern View has already written this up so I will return to it later with more analysis

Farley Stewart and Kevin Leach presentation on upcoming Conference and asking letter of support

Held last year in Vancouver and the Gathering Our Voices 2011 in PR from March 21st to 24th – Volunteers etc needed – contact Friendship House

s

Here is a PDF on BC Harm Reduction strategy – mainly substance abuse etc – also has its own web site (but down when I tried it) --- Here is short outline

2nd Presentation

‘I have my timer on--- no more than 10 minutes’ one presenter joked

Along same lines Mayor Mussallem said he had agreed to be on the above committee if Salvation Army Gary Shields would --- the latter had opted for a staff person whose area expertise was on topic --- Mussallem quipped he had staff people too

Robin joked that needed to contract a ‘trainer’ as his ‘credentials’ stale dated –thus not accepted by BC Tourism ---- Also there was item of paying 4-5T$ for a person on BC Ferries to also give information etc

Now if only the Museum people had brought their timer

Much of the presentation taken up with background information – ‘financial decisions should be based upon statistics’ so that is what we got --- main point was actually open in 2010 220 more hours than their predecessor in 2009 ---- Require 3 staff to stay open as can’t shut off museum nor bookstore --- and hired (university) student needs supervision etc

Still in the end an (almost) acceptable option presented

Museum will extend hours until 7PM during the peak season May through August 31st and 7 days a week etc – In meeting Gordon Payne votes against because no Council member on the Governance group --- Jack agreed – the counter argument seemed to be not in Museum’s Bylaws – and might affect their funding ---- too close to City etc

Devlin Fernandes joined by Tim MacDonald at presentation

Green Advisory Task Force Reports

Three objectives tonight’

Update, Intent’ and Next steps (a request)

Working on a Community GHG reduction plan --- and as transportation’ greatest contributor (her words) thus looking at alternatives – cycling and public transportation --- the latter involving a public survey (available from City Web site) looking at what, if any, bus schedule needs changing

Pineapple Express – every ‘heat wave’ brings a little ‘liquid sunshine’ this time of year

The satellite imagery shows the system going right back to Hawaii

I like haw the pressure is up and down every 24 hours or so --- lots of systems coming ashre

City Hall temps and pressure readings

And Sihar has a new camera

This one is a lot ‘smaller’ and easier to lug around
