First look at council meeting

Over in an hour

Not much happened --- of course they had been chatting ‘in-camera’ for a couple of hours --- but mere voters/ taxpayers need not know

Paddy Jones speaks of the upcoming Job Fair

The Career Resource Centre has a web site, but the Edge web site more developed – Job Fair March 4th etc--- Pictures from years past etc

See my previous page for details on this ‘nuisance’ property

Eric Slack was not at the meeting – too bad – I think some of the Council were sympathetic and would have listened to alternate uses of the back building --- still he has until late February to be heard

After a little going back and forth how exactly to pronounce his name the meeting unfolded (Mr Zdravlje was in attendance)

·        Utility Fees as ‘Special Fees’ and thus collectible as Taxes s258

·        Payments credited in following order s244

·        Legislated penalties for delinquent Taxes s234

Above links are to the relevant section to the Community Charter

Council basically declared they had no option but to do as staff did --- pretty technical --- are utilities ‘special fees’ etc?

Above is from associated paperwork in Agenda package – my underlining

Council felt like spinning their tires

The offered schedule is below

They seemed to want Visitor Info Center open 9-9 weekdays during summer as happened before the Museum took it over --- thus tabled the reqest to send the 70T$ ‘fee for service’ until next meeting (more later)

Joy Thorkelson was absent and thus did not speak to the motion

Gordon Payne was reluctant to give approval without hearing from the PR Processors – tabled till next meeting

I do not find Seafood Processors Association online

Here is the Federal web site for export controls etc

Below is excerpted from the letter in agenda pkg

I did look up item 5202 on Export Control list (a large PDF)

5202. Roe Herring
Roe herring from which the roe has not been extracted and that were caught in those parts of the following areas adjacent to the coast of British Columbia: a. the territorial sea of Canada as determined under section 4 of the Oceans Act – etc

The irony was that in same document were the following: (so the prohibition looks ‘permeable’)

Forest Products

5101. Logs of all species of wood. (All destinations)

5102. Pulpwood of all species of wood. (All destinations

Clear and cold

More later
