Warming up

Snow soon gone?

Pineapple Plus deeper low coming our way

Pineapple express – system tail reaching down to Hawaii – warmer weather?

SQCRD Boundaries and voting

The Regional district has boundaries that ‘don’t make much sense’ – thus Kitimat Stikine Regional District reaches down to the north side of Portland Inlet and the south side Douglas Channel – and there has always been the worry that SQCRD would be absorbed by Kitimat Stikine (which already has about twice the population (38,481 vs 19,964 for 2006 Census))

And it becomes stranger when look at how SQCRD divided up – thus on mainland Electoral Area A and C both have about 94% of their population living on Reserves – while Area D on QCIs has about 70% of its population on Reserves (and gets 2 votes because total is 2,082 thus second vote for being over 2,000 – by same token Rupert gets 7 votes – if and when a ‘weighted vote’ taken (essentially financial etc)

Area D from QCIs interesting as the winner last election, Brad Setso., is presumably Haida and works for them in his day job (so I am told) --- I wonder why Tsimshian Villages not put forth someone at elections as could easily win seat --- and would give those 1st Nations a ‘window’ into Regional governance --- Thus will be interesting to see how Brad does over nesxt few years

Buyers for Pulp mill?

Rumours going around that at least 3 groups are trying to buy mill--- Others tell me that Sun Wave has until late September 2009 to sell --- the city might object – or even go to court – but mainly to be assured it would get its Tax money owing --- after that date presumably the City would own the mill

See my earlier on Sun Wave

n      Here I had parts being sold last July

n      And in Feb ’08 had amount owed city almost 3M$

n      In Oct ’07 had Sun Wave buying a new Zamboni for City

n      In Jan ’07, I was questioning Pond’s campaign donations from Pulp Mill sources

n      And way back in Oct ’06 had City ‘warning’ Sun Wave about taxes

Council meeting Monday evening – Déjà vu all over again

I see Graham Avenue all upset again about someone trying to sub-divide property --- details lacking so will have to wait until the meeting --- last time it was a ‘panhandle’ property that was involved

And along the Conflict of Interest nuances – I see Council is going to ‘Partner’ with a service group that has a Council member running it – more after the meeting

Previous on man injured

Class Action Law Suit??

While it does seem extreme—it might be what is needed --- the City seems to place low priority upon clearing intersections for Pedestrians --- and politically I suspect the automobile drivers are stronger

It is a matter of priorities

How much time and money went into cleaning all the snow off 3rd Avenue? --- At same time many intersections in downtown area not on 3rd had not been dealt with --- Note below all snow put into a vacant lot – hopefully owned by City

Sun shine and Rock Walls

Note how green the grass is on photo left taken Sunday --- plus greener where the wall is higher (arrow) – this is a north facing wall (5 Corners area) – wouldn’t it be interesting if the wall puts heat into the ground and keeps grass greener --- it is a hypothesis worth testing as someday we might want to grow more veggies during winter time

And by the by – I note that Rupert agreed to be Carbon Neutral by 2012 --- other than a photo op for Pond – I wonder if we are still ‘promising’ to go that route?
