Council Meeting

First look

‘They’ let us in early --- cold? Or just Chamber of Commerce pull?

This Council meeting was (hopefully) video streamed ‘live’ --- the Adobe Flash file will be online Tuesday I was told

Marko Kessler moves from doing the tech stuff to making a power point presentation for the Coast Guard Auxiliary where he is ‘Unit Leader’

I will do the Rainbow Responder replacement vessel later in week – Asked for Letter of Support in quest for remaining $$ to pay for new vessel

Lots of people in Audience --- at first

This was in most aspects the key ‘event’ of the evening

--- Janet Crocker did not make it and ‘Mike’ sat in with Maynard

Chamber wanted a ‘special relationship’ with Council

Note Joy Thorkelson in background – though her voice was failing (from a cold) – she effectively countered their request – ‘if this were the Labour Council asking the same thing---- would get an immediate no’

While Chamber had 5 broad areas – most their discussion aimed at taxes ---- used a novel taxes per Labourer (using PR Census data) and (hopefully) constant 2006$ ---- thus note their data shows a decrease in taxes of 1.2M$ when compared to 1996 --- therefore the per labourer needed to make their argument --- would usually be per rate payer or per capita --- but these guys have a political agenda – more later

Like approving the machines wanted to buy etc –‘while price cheap’

Then back to more usual stuff --

Zeno makes a couple of presentations

Here Macro Properties wants to put siding on Sherbrooke apartments

I will return to this later --- Because it is a DPA (Development Permit Area) i.e., large multi-family apartment --- ‘we’ have to approve of the colours etc

From the DPA

More later

I don’t want to say Zeno was boring --- but the place was soon emptied out

Presumably the ‘crowd’ was there to bolster the Business as special interest argument

This will come back to a later Council meeting --- involved ‘new social norms’ where a special healthcare worker ‘needed’ at a small daycare --- going beyond ‘owner only’ allowed in non-business sections of town – generated some good discussion too – more later
