Clear
and cold – brings ice and slippery roads/ sidewalks |
I
see Council ‘sworn in’ officially (presumably last meeting too soon to be
‘official’) --- I also note Mussallem ‘declined’ such a crass formality Plus
substation
fire and response time |
Bill
Flaten speaks out |
While I will go into this in more
detail later --- here was a local hero –he dared to speak out, bringing his
own experience to City Council (and public) about current problems with bulk
wood pellets--- he works with them at Port – and he has experienced their
health effects etc thus the mask imaged far left –
which he brought to meeting---- more later |
There
were several presentations |
From airport ‘safety’ to golf course booze to Enbridge
container traffic to -- |
The
2nd star of meeting was Ken Shaw who presented power-point which
combined concerns with solutions |
If
not ‘solutions then directions to pursue – utilizing the guiding ideas of OCP
(Official Community Plan) |

‘Cheap’
at 65T$ or 95T$-initial + 5-15T$ yearly maintenance |
Planning
for off leash dog parks |
And supporting UFAWU concerns about Herring Roe --- there
was even ‘concern’ about Enbridge Pipeline |

Airport
‘Authority’ assures us there is no problem |
Fire trucks? Don’t need them. Medics? Don’t be silly ---- Deinstadt and Airport Manager ‘assure’ us --- more later |
While
not as ‘entertaining’ |
And
done with little attention from Council this could prove to be the most
significant part of meeting (more later) |
All
the more reason for tax paying public to support Anna Ashley’s ‘notice of
motion’ |
Ashley believes much of the information given behind
closed doors ‘documenting’ for Council what are the real infrastructure problems
and solutions could just as well be done publicly --- this seemed to be pooh poohed by the Mayor --- as ‘too boring’ etc, ‘even for Mr Golden’ ---
But then the Mayor seemed to believe allowing Fish companies to export raw
roe herring to be processed in China would ‘allow us’ to extract even more
(processing capacity limits catch --not sustainability?) |
More
later |
There
was even a letter to the Enbridge Enquiry ‘from Council’ |
Must have been done by staff--- as almost a waste of paper
--- copying out two pages from OCP
that some one seems to think were relevant to a ‘clean marine environment’
---- now there is always the raw sewage Rupert dumps in that same ocean 24-7
---- but hey, cleaning up that mess might cost us |
Fire
at Oldfield substation? |
Across form McDonald’s restaurant --- I was told there was
an explosion, ‘a big boom’, then the lights dimmed ---- 9-1-1 was called as flames
were seen |
Lots
of activity ‘remembered’ by the snow tracks |
Onlookers commented it seemed to take fire crews 15 minutes or more to show up --- luckily for ‘us’ by then the fire was out ---- This
is not the only slow response time story I have heard ‘lately’ --- One
incident this summer had a father being called after no ambulance siren heard
--- father took wounded son to hospital himself –--- more later |
While
some Council wanted this alternative as no leash dog park --- (95T$)
----BUT it also requires that just
ordinary walkers/ tourists can still use this popular foot path to Hays Creek
estuary etc |
Official
‘swearing in’ – but not Mayor
