Spring ‘miracle’

Renaissance of plant world

‘Horsetails’ (Equisetum) – ancient plants herald spring

Spring ‘opening’

From dandelions to alders

City’s new Water Conservation ‘Plan’ – is a joke

And how much are the 3rd Ave ‘street tree’s gong to cost us?

Before the dandelions bloom

This is the time to go out and ‘harvest’ the dandelion greens (for salads, or boil quickly and then use for stir fry etc)

They are at their peak size etc just before the blooms set in – at which point become more rancid etc ---- Or so was the experience of my Italian teachers from about 30 year ago

Spruce needle die off

I have mentioned the die off of Sitka Spruce locally several times before – now is the time to monitor different (accessible) trees to see what is happening --- here are some needles on a young tree --- they appear half dead --- but no obvious pathogen involved – stay tuned

They made us do it

Here is the ‘plan’ folks ---- it is totally (or 99% at least) meaningless --- but that is typical of so much of this Council’s ‘Green’ initiatives --- here the only reason this ‘Plan’ has been brought forth is that it is required for some of the funding for Hays Creek Sewage pipelines

But I will suggest later –even it is short term – and I doubt if it looks adequately at Sewage Treatment requirements --- more later

Major project to get the sewer lines out of Hays Creek etc

Many of the previous ‘street trees’ had died --- no surprise there --- so we will plant more of them – and see if the Cruise passengers are duly impressed

More Waste in name of ‘Tourism’??

Here is the End product (left) – but at what cost?

This is looking down into the hole--- rocks on bottom of pit – and old roots around periphery – arrow

]

I will go into this tomorrow --- but note when this patio was brought before Council etc – the ‘Planner’ (sic) explained that it was required because presently Pub staff and customers we  re going out in alley to smoke --- of course while it met some distance requirement from the Pub doors – it did not for the business next door – no problem

But the real issue is the City of Prince Rupert has a bylaw on the books that should have made this illegal – if anyone had done their homework

Street Patios and ‘Planning’

More later

3 Councillors going to China?? --- At the time I was told Gordon Howie would report to Council ‘next meeting’ on the China trip ---but it did not happen --- I consider this China junket by 3 Council members that have only months left in their term --- as an abuse of position, and would suggest that ordinary Rupertites ‘vote them out’ when we get a chance --- the per diems etc are not justified – even if someone else pays the air fare – more later

I am still working on the ‘Money laundering’ loophole where local gov’t able to give out ‘charitable tax donation’ receipts – and then pass $$ on to other organizations
