We See

April 6th

More Showers

City Transit busses have a new ‘card swipe’ system --- not all the busses have had there’s installed --- replaces coin box --- presumably after swipe fare card the number (and ID?) tallied --- ‘we used to have to do it manually for a couple months in the fall – everyone hated it as took so much time ‘ one driver told me --- more later --- but the concept of quantifying our bus useage should be extended to most other City Services --- How many kids used the gym facilities last week? Etc

 We See

Dandelions blooming

Garden store & port decking

Mall signs and Council priorities

And Council flow through charity ‘partnerships’

A day of showers --- but early afternoon was sunny

The hail or snow shower in the distance (at arrow) almost looks like a small ‘tornado’ or funnel cloud – though the showers were not that powerful locally

OK this was from the day before

Still the Rainbow was pretty unusual --- it was so low over the harbour that almost touched the water in the middle and not just either end

And then there were the dandelions blooming

First day I actually saw any blooms – and both these locations were unique ‘micro-climates’ --- the nearby walls help retain the suns heat  etc

We See

Rona’s garden store is gearing up --- lots of potted flowers etc in the ‘greenhouse’ but only veggies I saw were asparagus – the woman said most the others would be 3-4 weeks from now --- time enough to start ones own from seed too

We See – new decking at Atlin Terminal area – perhaps getting ready to attract ‘pocket cruise lines’?

I will return to this in more detail

The mall is going to change its appearance along 2nd Avenue --- seems innocuous enough – but had to go to City Council because the fee exceeded amount planner could issue on his own --- needless paperwork you say?

This is an excerpt from the Gordon Howie ‘report’ handed out at last Council meeting

Actually there was more ‘good’ information in this one document than came out at the full council meeting --- here I only put a few section about the ‘Strategic Plan’

--- Note the part about either borrowing – or going to referendum to build a new fire department etc ---- I will argue later that now is not the time to either go deeper in debt – nor build a new fire department --- we need to wait until the future is clearer --- are we through the lst recession and a building boom is ahead – meaning the population will be back up to 15T+? --- Or will the decline continue to ever smaller numbers? --- Either way, it will determine the best size for police, fire employee numbers etc – more later

I like this huge truck ‘servicing’ the Recycling

Not showing is the buildings were recently power washed and thus looking like freshly painted --- also rumour is that the business is ‘for sale’

Charitable Flow Through Partnership Policy

I mentioned before how much $$ city was collecting for various non-profits around town --- and issuing tax receipts --- while it might not be ‘money laundering’ – seems to me to be on pretty tenuous grounds --- taking a municipal perk – and extending it well beyond what the original intent was --- more later on this too

Declining sun

Reflecting off the tops of the cumuliform clouds – promising?
