CityWest internet usage and Netflix Rupert’s Charitable Donations ‘scam’? SQCRD and Rupert pays 72% Admin |
|
|
A who done
it |
|
Some vehicle
knocked over the street light at Five Corners --- superficially looks like a
truck hit the sign --- red arrow --- there are skid marks at white arrow ---
the yellow arrow shows the base of the pole with no signs of any impact ---
the truck/ kayak sustained minor damage ---- presumably though cleaned up by
O’Brien --- never reported to RCMP --- thus the yellow tape etc |
|
First Bockbusters went into
bankruptcy in US – then local video store reopened under a smaller more
regional franchise--- Economist
says even Movie theatres in the downturn from peak in 2005 |
CityWest
internet – and Home Entertainment industry |
|
Recent Economist magazine had an
article about the shifting fortunes of the ‘home entertainment’ industry---
How Hollywood is trying to recoup its high costs of producing pictures ---
yes there is piracy – but the latest consumer ploy is to use Netflix --- even
in US about 20% of internet usage in evenings streaming from Netflix |
|
|
At
Monday Council meeting CityWest
blamed some heavy users (7% of total) who hog much of the internet bandwidth ---
CityWest tries to ‘shape’ its usage during peak periods (evenings) --- even
though I had not used the internet all day Tuesday – I had no ‘signal’ from
10PM till 1:30Am --- presumably part of the shaping’ |
|
G&M where Netflix lowering ‘image quality’ to get under
data caps imposed by Internet providers |
Mtl Gazette article where suggests Netflix and CRTC should
be ‘talking’ as former not Canadian |
|
|
City Council
‘Flow through charitable donations’ |
|
This
was originally Councillor
Bedard’s idea – she mentioned it at Monday Council meeting in terms of Shames Mountain
co-op – which led me to inquire from City Treasurer Dan Rodin --- so appears
City of PR issued about 50T$ in Charitable Donation Tax receipts in 2010 –
covering about 150-200 donors I was told --- plus I was given a copy of the
‘application’ form – more later |
|
|
And then
there is the SQCRD |
|
This
is from the recent 2011 Budget --- for ‘Administration’ Rupert pays 72% ---
which highlights how small most the other players really are --- the good news
is that electoral Area remuneration is now coming out of their pockets (new
this year) --- but presumably we still pay 70% of Masset etc ‘remuneration’
--- ‘we’ even paid his medical last time I checked --- more later |
|
|
April showers
bring May flowers? |
|
Earlier
in day Monday there was hail – and then in afternoon there was a ‘blinding’
snow storm – the white arrow points to large snow flakes etc --- but within a
few hours it was back to sunshine |
|
|
Grad of ’79 |
|
This
prank graffiti visible on cliff face about this time of year --- then the
green shrubbery hides it I
like the idea that these fellows must now be around 50 years old --- and we
see no one else has been able to scale the wall since then |
|
|
We
See --- City Hall entrance appears to be getting a new roof --- Wonder why
City crew could not do it—etc |
|
|
Coastal
Shellfish Corp |
|
Here
is all I find on Internet --- http://www.haidanation.ca/Pages/Splash/Job_Postings/PDF's/coastalfnofficeman.pdf
The
potential irony is that shellfish aquaculture and the Port’s reliance upon
international shipping might prove incompatible --- thus invasive species in
ballast waters and even encrusted upon ships hulls have often meant ruin for
shellfish aquaculture ventures – eg the Great Lakes etc – more later |
|
|
A Settlement
Feast at Nisga’a Hall |
|
I
did not get the details correct --- this was the 7th year after
the woman’s death --- Nicole Robinson from Kincolith(?) --- I was told there
were 400+ people inside to pay their respects – more later |
|
|
And after the showers come the
Rainbows
|
|
‘City of
Rainbows’ you say? End of
rainbow could have been the new facility that CN building down on the
waterfront More later |
