Rumours and boondoggles

Major changes at Mall? --- While rumours rampant – people involved say only ‘wait until September’ to hear if true – that Walmart has bought out lease of Zellers and will put in another brand store – First HBC, then Zellers, now Walmart?

Lots of good rumours going around

But everyone agrees that Shoppers moving

Surprising part of Rumour is that only taking up half the space in previous grocery store

At national level seems the imminent arrival of Target stores is causing all these ‘waves’ as Walmart, Zellers, and Sears reposition themselves

Here is my suggestion for ‘new’ RCMP building

See my previous for background on RCMP ‘request’ (demand) for new ‘accommodation’

I suggest putting office part in the mall – sufficient parking for all their cars etc

New Alternate School in this mall space?

Various people have confirmed this story --- now if all those students don’t use up the parking space then RCMP could---

Many local businesses closing down – new survey finds

Studio 9 confirmed to be closing --- ‘but we still have the B&B’

Those that have not chosen to paint their buildings seem to get a new face lift --- above the Mayor’s family business getting cleaned --- Will there be a tax break here too? We’ll see come next Monday’s meeting

Will City Council ‘step in’?

So a local CBC interviewee asserted ---- our Council heavy on downtown business owners – so to be expected yet another tax break (‘incentive’) will be offered --- but of course that is not the real problem --- No Jobs for mere Citizens at root of Rupert’s woes

Here was another ‘incentive’ passed last meeting

Outside patios policy revised – mainly to lower the rates and make easier for businesses to apply etc --- or maybe just a make work project to keep our very expensive town planner earning his $102,595 salary (source: SOFI for 2010) – in hopes for the boom just around the corner

I also hear that city ‘lost’ the 20T$ ‘donated’ to Snowbirds when latter did not show

What were the benefits to PR?

Speaking of make work projects – here was the stimulus that Harperites put into local economy – now almost finished – still one may wonder abour the priorities and whether helped local economy – we will still have to pay  384T$ out of the 2011 sewer fund ‘surplus’ to make up for ‘short falls’

Suggestion is to have numerous signs like this made up – if need be by the City—and sold for minimal price to building owners --- it is more ‘our problem’ than theirs’ --- picture below is from a hangout for kids parties until pictured sign put up – end of problem

New Policy?

I hear the building owner has given local RCMP permission to ask the loiterers to move on --- there are several other such ‘resting’ points downtown

Speaking of problem spots

This is from alley behind Third Avenue – which is becoming a junk yard --- while would be hard to prove – I believe all coming from one residential property --- Ironic that the City could come down so hard and quickly on Chris Proctor – while his ‘neighbours’ seem to get off Scot-free
