Note the new lumber – I suspect it is to ‘remind’ Citizens
in what rough shape this 33 year old concrete building is ‘actually’ in |
|
RCMP first look at the issue – --- ‘accountability’ Community 'oversight' etc Plus:
Deer on 3rd Ave
Kids ‘playing’ sic Archives and Urban history

See
August 3rd ‘Information
for Council page’s PDF |
|
And note the date
when ‘meeting’ held (June 9th) this was day before the UBCM
input into Terms Reference for ‘RCMP Contract Management Committee’----
where part of the mandate is ‘cost and accountability’ of RCMP to
Municipalities ---note too UBCM
looking for · Establishment of a Formal Dispute Process. · Establishment of an Independent Public Complaints Process Very interesting ‘Timing’ |
|
And not the ‘thoughtful’ writer has
even given saved us the trouble of looking at the contract --- telling ‘us’
we have one year to comply – but if the contract follows the provincial model
– this is only the first of 3 yearly notices – small oversight |
Note as of June 9th it was
apparently a fait
accompli (done deal) according to this letter that City would ‘replace
the detachment’ |
|

Contract see

Part
of the requirements of 1st notice is to list the ‘deficiencies’ |
|
|
While the detachment has fewer
members than in the past – it is now ‘over-crowded’ --- lacks file space etc --- what did it do when Rupert’s population was 40%
more than at present then??? |
|
This
fawn went window shopping on its own |
On
a lighter note – Deer on 3rd |
|
The worried mom and its sibling tried
to find it – eventually all reunited – and traffic stopped to let them go
over to Safeway --- or maybe just the waterfront |

|
|
These
2 bucks also part of the group |
|
If they keep ‘nosing’ around town – I
suspect they will soon present a hazard – if not to grown-ups – then small
children and more likely small pets |
|
|
And
the Vandalism continues |
|
Still on a previous Friday evening I
did see the Bike patrol RCMP officer take fireworks from a couple teenagers ‘brazenly’
setting them off in front of Mall --- they were not looking for the bike but
would have spotted a police car |
|
Getting
cut down by a good Samaritan |
Just
a game?? |
|
These kids taped
the other to a pole --- his feet were not even on the ground --- a passerby
soon cut him down – and he met up with the others (who had gone in for a
donut) and they walked ‘home’ together ---
|

|
Interesting
use of our urban history |
|
Building on 3rd Ave with
Archival images in window --- While a century is ‘nothing’ when say compared
to Montreal of London – a man with a strong British accent pointed out to me
that often buildings there are so old that no one knows its past without a
major research effort --- hence the beauty of Rupert where much of our urban
history is ‘captured’ on film etc ---- the arrow
seems to be the same house over time |

Great
idea YOUTH ACTIVITIES NIGHTS The city
Recreation Department, in partnership with the Friendship House Association
of Prince Rupert, is running a summer pilot project, a weekend evening
activities night for youth. The program, which runs Fridays between 9:30 –
11:30 p.m., will be free to youth and run in the late evening in the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre (excerpted for Ruddy Kelly ‘mail out’) |

|
Appears a young child darted out into
the street near intersection --and was hit – but seemed minor as the
accompanying adult able to take crying child to hospital in his own van |
|
|
High
Pressure area over Pacific |
|
Brought strong westerly winds Sunday
and clear skies --- a little fog Monday which cleared off around noon --- summertime
|
|
|
More later – especially on the RCMP ‘accommodation’
