September 21st

Fist look at Monday Council meeting

A long one

From Leaky roofs, to Pensions, to Dress Codes (showing proper respect)

First look – over view at a long meeting that was at times mind numbing -----

Presentations at COW

Dave Smith on Retirement and security

More details later – Campaign with basic 3 points: --- Doubling CPP, immediately, > OAS etc – plus pension ‘insurance’ fund etc --- See the CLC web page

Joanne Finlay gives Lester Center presentation

A long drawn out review of what needed from City to apply for an Arts grant that is soon to expire – more later

More later

I also tried to bring up that could not just wag finger at people about Recycling, but land fill must impose fines etc if cardboard brought – or video monitors ‘hidden’ under scrap lumber in dumpster etc --- But Jack more interested in my hat, or my phrasing into a proper ‘question’  – than issues and substance

Questions from Public

Jean Martin and saving PR Recycling – Mussallem was patronising arguing needed save $$$ --- I tried to bring up that not paying Koning 75$ per hour at SQCRD for 3-4 months would save the 20-24T$ -- I was told to take off my hat ‘and show proper respect’ or some such – even Joy gave me a ‘dressing down’

Then there were the Development Permit formalities

It was only later that I see that 1402 2nd West and the new Transition House are actually behind each other – arrow and base of arrow --- chance meeting at a ‘consultation’

I will return to this later as meeting brought up some good points on both

Apparently in 2008 the next door neighbour had objected to an earlier version of 1402 adding a second floor --- details later

Bars & Hotels may get a break in Utility Fees

Mussallem announced that would not be done at this meeting but to be discussed next time – so this fellow need not remain through the meeting etc

I have not gone into the l-o-n-g discussion about Museum request for property tax exemption etc – later

Like I said – mind numbing at times – and by the end only Monica and I remained in ‘audience’ --- everyone else showing good sense and going home
