September 10th

We Hear:

SQCRD moving to----

Morning Orchid towards evening

I will return to

City Council

meeting this

weekend

Plus

SQCRD

Helen Koning back at SQCRD – perhaps to over see this move? --- see ‘officially gone’ (maybe) and  my earlier and here

SQCRD Moving to ‘Old Mackelhaney‘ building next to Rain

So that is the real estate they were talking about at Closed Council meeting?? Not the Mill (exclusively)

This from an old photo I happened to have

Will ‘we’ be paying for this move? I hear Jack says we’ll even be ‘saving’ $$ -- time will tell

Who is in charge here?

So the City needs money (Watson Island etc) –Originally when planned to sell the SQCRD building to Lax Kw’aalams--- at first the ‘word’ was ‘no worries’ the SQCRD will simply share the offices --- but now we hear SQCRD ‘requires’ five office spaces --- thus too small and have to go elsewhere --- we hear building on left ‘chosen’ (by whom? When?).

Mayor Mussallem’s name comes up as brokering deal or at least being the Council’s source information --- we hear the Rain building was also available and some believe a better choice (even with its patio)

Cruise ship in foreground with Aston Trader  at Anchorage C

While it was not a pleasant day for Cruise Ship – quite a few did get off ---- the flowers etc prove to be nice and close to ship backdrop for photos ---- We hear the reason ship’s crew always make beeline to ‘free’ Wi-Fi services (such as here at Safeway—picture below left) is that Wi-Fi costs $0.40/ minute on ship ---

Note the dog too – though perhaps not vicious was ‘attacking’ every passer-by as far as its leash would allow --- barking and snarling – and wagging its tail – for mixed signals

We Also noted the Cruise Bus was full almost every time seen during the evening – below

Farmers’ Market even fewer tents – would it not be better to put back downtown on Third –as most the ‘walk about tourists’ I talked to had not even considered going over to Third

Second look at Council meeting

As I said before—and here for my take on agenda- – with out all those Development Permit applications there would almost have not been a meeting over half hour long

Nelson Kinney brought up the ‘Seniors need a Lift

Long a champion of Seniors’, Nelson discussed the hardship that putting gym equipment on upper floor at Pool etc had caused less mobile Seniors – he mentioned the Seniors’ Center was taking this on as a project to see if they could raise the $$ needed for an elevator (more later)

He also thanked the MLA Gary Coons and staff for facilitating the directional signs at Five Corners which he had mentioned earlier

Sheila Gordon Payne questions Watson Island expenses

Perhaps it was the concern about how rapidly Rupert using up the 1.2M$ budgeted for Watson Island that brought her to suggest that next update by Treasurer look at what city services etc that could be cut back if Watson not sold ‘soon’ – See my earlier where Watson Island expenses in  media stories questioned

Announced at meeting

I like the idea of the Pigeons watching the traffic go by on 2nd Avenue on a sunny ‘fall’ day
