First look at Council meeting

But first another storm warning

Sheila Gordon Payne absent from a long, long council meeting
Why no State of Emergency declared?------ Then there was the meeting too   -- And who pays for all those tree cuttings on ‘private’ property

Will the storm predicted for Wednesday night be as bad as this weekend?

Using the Weather stations to predict

And Storm damage on McBride – image below

Here is link to all the northern Weather Buoys click map – and use my home page for links to more local wind measurements – Airport—Holland Rock etc

When I looked around 7PM the system had already passed through Hecate --- with gusts 50-55 mph --- and barometer bottomed out as in red

Rupert Airport barometer bottoming out at 8pm --- around 29.48

So we could predict a few hours of gusty winds ---- but nothing much beyond a gale --- When City gets their weather page back online – could have used it for our ‘barometric reading

Some are asking why the City did not declare an emergency Sunday night or Monday morning?

I hear some trees on Moresby fell across the lines – the wires shorted out and the trees were ‘burning’ --- Fire trucks came and cut the power and then put out fire --- leaving Moresby residents powerless – Fire Trucks left – and lucky for them as then many more trees blew down – which would have trapped them

New Cadillac hearse dented by falling debris

At Council meeting Gordon Howie said

The storm was a ‘very large event’ --- ‘almost a State of Emergency’ --- we heard in Mayor’s report that the upstairs tenants at Funeral home were given lodging elsewhere --- but not Moresby residents – nor those in the Mountain View ‘trailer court’ who were presumably left to fend on their own – thus the value of declaring a ‘State of Emergency’ – and letting the ‘Plan’ kick in

Oh Ya – a Council meeting

In my humble opinion – Ashley and Bedard starred during this meeting --- and contrary to my predictions – the Council did not give Business everything they sought

A zero Sum Game?

There is a good report included in Council package, presumably done by Dan Rodin --- Joy Thorkelson gave a ‘Notice of Motion’ that is so worded so as to redistribute the costs of sewerage among the hotels and not be ‘off loaded’ to residential --- The notice allows other Hotels to respond etc at next meting

Presumably all the hotels metered

More later

Here are 2 tables from the report

Surprisingly detailed questions from Council – thus what about 901 Ambrose? And should we be giving Legion ‘free taxes’ on a vacant lot they plan to sell etc – More later

Was given 3rd reading – thus including the requested Museum additions --- see my earlier ---

If I might paraphrase Councillor Bedard: ‘the Permissive Tax Exemption seems unduly complicated’ (thus a ‘make-work’ project for the planner to justify his huge salary?)

Need to set a limit on how much tax $$ we will give up etc (tax shift)

Revitalization goes back to drawing board – Workshop in November

More discussion later

Hays Creek Sewer project Phase 1

Thorkelson asked rhetorically why the consultant we paid such big bucks to ‘missed’ the cost by such a wide margin --- perhaps because only 2 bidders etc – More later ---- Phase 3 is where the missing funding ($675,000) comes in

From image in Agenda Package

Need to take the sewer line out of Hays Creek --- I walked it Wednesday --- more later

Even though it costs more – we better spend the grant $$ or lose it etc

Who Pays for this? I’ll bet the City (Us)
