Long Council meeting

Yes it was boring BUT

Usually most this would have been in-camera in previous years

I will argue later that this was primarily the special interests groups coming to Council to get Taxpayers $$ arguing that it was in ‘our’ best interest to give it to them

The Arctic outbreak winds replaced by snow

Hopefully--- Hopefully it will turn to rain soon and the Aleutian Low will re-assert itself --- sending that Arctic High back up North

Like I said – most of this would have been done in-camera before --- but there was still very little factual information given the public ----- like how much $$ each group was actually requesting

Give us $$$ --- it is in ‘your’ best interest to do so

Danielle Dalton speaks for Association des francophones et francophiles du Nord-Ouest

Here is the ‘local’ web site – and here is the BC parent organization Fédération des francophones de Colombie-Britannique

Here was one of the more interesting presentations ---

TK has the main story about how the group is moving its base of operations from Kitimat to Prince Rupert – for maybe 10 years than try another NW town – the Francophile part is for those that may not be bilingual but appreciate the French language/ culture etc

Group was asking for 3700$ in kind donation for use of Civic Center – More later

This group did provide the public with factual information (even brought their Accountant) --- more later ---– Club owns the ‘Club House’ etc --- and Pro Shop run as a separate entity ‘owned by 2 people (elsewhere said City owned actual building) – Want City to pay the 90T$ to the Superintendent + 20T for capital – (but 40T in 2011) --- will take some more work to unravel – City may already employ Greens’ Keeper too

Golf Club want taxpayer $$ --- How much unclear to me --- 130T$(?) in 2011------More later

How typical –  glossy brochure type articles handed out to Council – with images of exhibits etc and second describing programs offered by Museum etc ---- But not all was ‘smiles’ – Sheila Gordon Payne asked about City having a person on their Board of Directors – was mildly rebuffed – more later

Museum of Northern BC ---- How much never mentioned to us mere taxpayers

Again no exact sums --- City gives a grant plus the 2% ‘Hotel Tax’ to this local Tourism group --- apparently over paid in 2010 by 25T$ -- so if ‘clawed back’ in 2011--- then more cutbacks to follow in advertising

Tourism needs Tax payer $$ -- it is in ‘our’ best interest

I will come back to this later

1648 Jamaica

Husband called into work so she came to give the background info on why Variance needed—(drainage, etc) --- more later

Lothar provided some insights into Dumpster diving etc --- more later

Recycling debate ‘recycled’

This turned into a humorous and insightful discussion – Union was ‘blamed’ for not using a ‘simple solution’ where management intransigence might be better explanation

Seniors mail boxes

So the new home for Senior Citizens has a ‘do it yourself’ mail box – no deliveries here --- I am told a fellow from Vancouver flown up to install this wonder of modern technology – and then home etc ----- Note how the outgoing mail is to be put in at arrow (image left) --- hope the Seniors are all tall and in good shape (for walking etc)

More later
